What is Panelized Construction?
Panelized packages have been around for many years and have been confused with modular, mobile, or pre-fabricated homes. In fact, Panelized Construction is quite different. This method resulted from the evolution of traditional stick-frame construction. Panelized construction utilizes the technology from traditional framing and brings it into a controlled and efficient manufacturing environment.
Historically, after a project's foundation is prepared, the floor system is built according to traditional framing methods. The next step would normally be to measure, cut and nail individual pieces of lumber together to create a wall section and then level, square and fasten it into place. This is where the panelized process differs. Panelization brings the floor, wall and roof assembly into a climate-controlled and efficient manufacturing environment. All of these panelized components are built in a precise, engineered fashion. All of the components are designed by using computer software, which results in greater accuracy and reduced labour and waste. This enables us to be better stewards of the environment and provide you with a Built Green Gold rated home!
After all of the panels and building components are complete, they are shipped on a flat bed truck to the construction site. Once the panelized package arrives, it is unloaded and ready for our professional installation team to construct the home on the prepared foundation. The speed of this construction process will allow you to move into your new home in as few as ten working days!
What are the advantages to the Panelized process?
Material and Cost Savings
- Human error is reduced
- Waste and disposal costs are reduced
- Savings due to volume purchasing
- Materials are optimized using computer software
- Jobsite labour is dramatically reduced
- Less building materials available for theft
Higher Quality Standards
- Factory controlled conditions result in panels that are more accurate and better fitting on-site
- Reduced warping, shrinkage and floor squeaks due to quicker close-in
- Our Panelized process uses premium grade lumber and materials
- Panels are built by experienced workers using the latest computer software, resulting in a consistent and uniform product
Reduced Construction Time
- More reliable completion schedule and move-in date
- Construction loan and interest charges are reduced due to a quicker completion time
- Delays due to material shortages and labour scheduling are reduced
- Construction becomes more feasible year-round

First ... What are Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)?1
Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are custom designed, prefabricated wall, roof and floor panels made of a rigid foam core sandwiched between two structural skins. Advanced fabrication technology allows SIPs to be cut to the design of your home quickly and accurately, and then delivered to the jobsite for a speedy install.
SIPs OutPerform"Stick Built"1
SIP buildings are vastly more energy efficient, stronger, quieter, and more draft-free than other building systems such as stud framing with fiberglass insulation. Rigid insulation is used as solid component insulation in almost every industry for its inherent efficiency and lack of air movement. These attributes are built right into a SIP building. Less air leakage means fewer drafts, less noise, lower energy bills and a much more comfortable indoor environment.
Healthy Indoor Environment1
Recent studies indicate that the indoor air quality (IAQ) in homes can have significant effects on respiratory illness, particularly childhood asthma. The degree of tightness capable in a SIP home allows greater control over IAQ by limiting incoming air to mechanical ventilation systems that can fi?ter air for allergens or remove humidity. The inside of a SIP panel is solid, continuous insulation, absent of cavity voids often prone to mold growth in wood frame houses. Mold growth can also lead to serious respiratory problems and allergic reactions.
Durability and Safety1
Structural insulated panels function like a steel I-beam. This web and flange design delivers engineered structural performance. Resistance to air infi?tration and moisture intrusion increases the life of a home because building longevity is a key component in environmentally sustainable building. SIP homes have withstood hurricane winds and earthquakes with amazing integrity due to superior transverse load resistance. The solid construction of SIPs makes a SIP home safer and more comfortable for your family.

"Enjoying a Classic Lifestyle has never been easier."
At Classic Panels, we are leveraging SIP building technology in the construction of our homes. Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are custom-designed prefabricated wall, roof and panels made of a rigid foam core, sandwiched between two structural skins. Advanced fabrication technology allows SIPs to be cut to the design of the home, allowing for quick factory assembly of the home's major components (ie. External walls, floors, roof, etc). Most builders use OSB SIPs. At Classic Panels, we are using Magnesium Board as our structural skin, allowing for increased structural strength, mold resistance and improved fire protection. SIP homes are vastly more energy-efficient, stronger, quieter and more draft-free than other building systems such as stud framing with fiberglass insulation. Rigid insulation is used as solid component insulation in almost every industry for its inherent efficiency and lack of air movement. These attributes are built right into our SIP homes. Less air leakage means fewer drafts, less noise, lower energy bills and a much more comfortable indoor environment. The interlocking design of SIPs delivers greatly increased structural performance and resistance to air and moisture intrusion, which increases the life of the home.
To bring the benefits of this building method to the affordable housing market, Classic Panels has developed a system to rapidly build SIP homes in components, commonly referred to as panelized construction, out of our Medicine Hat facility. The External and Internal walls, roof, floor and ceiling systems are constructed separately with heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical already installed. They are then shipped as one package to the build site for rapid assembly. On-site, the home is finished as any other, where the walls are drywalled, painted and finishing components such as cabinets, doors, trim, shelving, etc are installed. Classic Panels is dedicated to providing you with a high-quality, energy efficient and affordable home.
Combining the quality-control and cost-reductions of a factory assembly model with the benefits of SIP technology, allows Classic Panels Ltd. to bring Built Green Gold certified homes to the affordable housing market.
